Yet More Of Obama’s “non interference”

By Tabatha, 3 August, 2009, 14 Comments

My, my, Obama must be gifted when it comes to time management. I say this because with all that he has to deal with, he still found time to interfere with a domestic dispute in Israel. The issue at stake is a simple one. Some Arabs were found guilty of squatting in a property that belongs to someone else.  There – pretty simple, right? The matter was referred to the court and in fact went to the Supreme Court in Israel. The law was clear, the ruling was given.

Logically, justifiably, the squatters were evicted,  on Saturday.

And that should have been the end of the matter.

It would have been – in any other country.

But of course, this is Israel we’re talking about. Thus before long, America decided to ignore what Israeli law said, and instead champion the cause of these Arab squatters.

 Extraordinary, wouldn’t you agree…?

The property in question is  in the northeastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Shimon HaTzaddik, also known as Sheikh Jarrah. Though the property has been owned by a Sephardic Jewish organization for over 120 years, Arabs were placed there by Jordan following its conquest of Jerusalem in 1948.

Over the course of the past ten years, Jewish groups have actively sought to restore the Jewish character of the neighborhood – which also features the traditional gravesite of the Talmudic sage Simon the Just (Shimon HaTzaddik).  At each stage, they have acted properly, referring maters to the courts. In fact they have proven to more than fifteen judges, in total, that their actions are legal and just.

One source told Israel National News:

“The squatters have done all they could to show that they deserve no protection from the law. They have not paid rent, they have rioted, they have built illegally, they have presented forged documents – and they even include among their number some who have been in prison for security crimes!”

And yet, , America, Britain, and – well, of course – the UN, have condemned Israel.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Meggan Mattson released a statement saying:

Unilateral actions taken by either party cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations and will not be recognized by the international community.”

 Or, in other words:

Any time Israel does something that any Arab or Palestinian dislikes - no matter how legal, or moral, or logical, or justifiable  that Israeli action - it’s going to be shot down in flames by an Obama administration that quakes in its boots at the notion of upsetting the Muslim and Arab worlds.

Given the financial mess that America and Britain are both currently in, perhaps their leaders - and I use that word in the loosest sense possible – should spend more time putting their own houses in order, before presuming to decide who lives in Israeli houses.

The Israeli courts decide legal issues in Israel.

The International community doesn’t get to weigh in and undermine that.

Obama et al need to remember this, and start treating the Israelis with the same respect that they show to their Arab and Muslim pals. I mean, come on – can you imagine Obama seeking to tell the Saudis how to run any aspect of their regime?

Of course not. He won’t speak up for the downtrodden and persecuted trapped  in barbaric regimes across the world – Iran, anyone? –  but he’s got plenty to say about who lives where in Jerusalem.

Double standard?

You betcha.

Oddly Israel expelling Arabs is a unilateral action, Israel expelling Jews is not a unilateral action and is actually demanded by the state department

    double standard much

LOL, yep, I've also noted the double standard right at the end of the piece – I agree with you entirely.

I put that exact point to a British Jewish friend the other night. He was speechless for a full three minutes! LOL

Interesting reading. Although I dissagree with you. Double standard? I don't think so. But there are in fact double standards in israel when it comes to some other issues. And saying that, I'd really be interested in hearing your opinion on it, Jew With A View.

Firstly, how do you comment on Israel starting renaming Arab Palestinian cities to Hebrew? Isn't it a step to create more racism and isolate the Arab community inside Israel and the occupied territories? Isn't that double standard?

And secondly, you've probably heard that Israel has made it almost impossible to give building permissions to Arabs in East Jerusalem or any part of the West Bank in an effort to push Arabs to migrate. Don't you think this is double standard as well?

let's see if you have answers for that :)

    FILTHYKAFIR :)

No need to apologise – but I appreciate the sentiment :)

Great points about Honduras; very interesting indeed. You've given me a new topic to start reading up about as I'll freely admit, I don't know much about this – many thanks! Great to hear from you, as ever :)

    VAGNER:

It's very clearly a double standard. A new Palestinian state would no doubt be devoid of Jews – surveys show that the Pal Arabs don't want Jews there. You have no issue with this, right? Yet at the same time, you insist that Arabs must live in the Jewish state. And you can't see the blatant double standard here???

    To address your points, then:
1 – any land that Israel acquired post 1948, she got in *defensive* wars. If the surrounding Arab nations hadn't simulatenously attacked Israel, they would not have lost any land. Once a sovereign nation captures land in war, they can do with it whatever the hell they want. So if Israel wants to change the names then she wouldn't be acting any differently than ANY other nation on the planet.

By the way – will you also be protesting the one million + Jews who got chucked out of every Islamic and Arab state with literally just the clothes on their backs…?

What about the way JORDAN bans any Jews from becoming citizens…?
Where is your righteous anger over that…? I don't hear you crying 'racism' over this…

  • Tabatha A Jew With A View

    VAGNER:

2 – I challenge your use of the words 'more racism'. You are presuming that we agree there is some to start with – yet over one million Israeli Arabs choose to live IN the Jewish state. They don't have to. They have passports – if things are as bad as YOU claim, why don't they move to any of the numerous Arab nations…?

You are also incorrect in using the term 'occupied territories'. There are no such things. Israel left Gaza (and suffered INcreased terrorism as a result!). Judea and Samaria are historic Jewish areas.

As for your complaints about how Israeli Arabs are treated: look, I don't claim things are perfect in Israel. As with all countries, some groups are happier than others. But let's just examine how Israeli Arabs get on:

Here is some info from a site which shows how Arabs get preferential treatment in Israel, link at bottom:

Introduction: Critics point out to the reversed unevenness, some have summed it up in one phrase: “If Arabs Can Live in Jewish Neighborhoods, Why Can’t Jews Live in Arab Neighborhoods?” In fact, many have raised the issue of Arabs not only being equal citizens as Jews in Israel, but often as first class citizens, Arabs, Muslims first class citizens in Israel whereas Israeli Jews are second class citizens.

Land issues: an example: Israeli Police evict Jews from Jewish-owned Hebron home as applauding Palestinian Arabs looked on [4], there are complaints of Jews who proclaim that they are sick and tired of being second-class citizens, while all Arabs in Judea and Samaria are treated like first-class citizens. [5], in another case An Israeli Supreme Court ruling did not deny that the land was Jewish-owned, but ordered the Jews to be moved out. [6] In another case, a lawyer for Y. Herskovitz, owner of property in Jerusalem, said his client will sue Jerusalem police for failing to execute court orders to evict Arab squatters from his property. [7]

WAGNER – continued from above: preferential treatment of Arabs in Israel:

In court (broader issues), the Israelis routinely decide in favor of the Palestinians against their own government, applauded by U.S. Justice Brennan,[8] preferential treatments to Israeli Arabs, Palestinian-Arabs include steps on the expense of security, such as the ‘Democracy in action’ [9], Israel’s Supreme Court took up the grievances of Palestinians and required the government to move the fence in the area near Jerusalem to make things easier for the Palestinians [10] Even the NYTimes acknowledges that at least [11] periodically, Israeli courts rule in favor of Palestinians (instead of security/government officials).

Voting: the Arab minority are full citizens who enjoy equal rights despite not being required to serve in Israel’s army . [12] and decry: Israel is the only country in the world that endows a community of its citizens with full voting rights on both local and national levels without also requiring them to serve in the army, adding that Israeli Arabs even refuse the alternative National Service. They even refuse a national service in their own communities and exercise intimidation against members of their community that raise the subject. [13]

Employment: Israel has enacted affirmative action policies to help its minority citizens achieve full social and economic equality. [14] [15], in an example: if an Arab candidate received the same number of points as the Jewish candidate, the Arab doctor was preferable, in keeping with the policy of affirmative action in government ministries. [16]

In academia: a professor has written about Israel’s “affirmative action”, quotas and preferences for Arabs [17] Israeli universities… instituting programs that discriminate in favor of Arabs and against Jews [18] and that Israel already has a system in place whereby Jews are often treated as second-class citizens. [19]

  • A Jew With A View A Jew With A View

    VAGNER – continued from above:

Checkpoints: From May 2009, All Israeli citizens – including Jews – must now show their ID cards at the large Tarkumiyeh checkpoint, at the same time, life is being made easier for Arabs in the region – despite the several murders that have been perpetrated by Arabs. The IDF explained that the decision was made to “reward” the Arabs for not rioting or attacking during the recent Israeli offensive in Gaza. [20]

Media freedom: while the Arabs have unlimited freedom of broadcast [21] and the Hebrew radio stations like Kol Yisrael and Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio) systematically broadcast from an Arab point of view, yet the Arutz Sheva radio station, often called “Free Israel Radio” (because it is the only independent news network in the Middle East) [22], has seen restricting steps from the Israeli government. [23] [24]

Access to holy sites, often Israeli police closes the Temple Mount to non-Muslims Like: Temple Mount shut to non-Muslims on election eve – was closed to Jews today in response to Muslim threats of violence [25] and on more occasions. [26]

How do you comment on Arabs renaming Israeli cities and regions that they took over in the first place. For that matter how do you comment on Constantinople being renamed Istanbul?

  • filthykafir filthykafir

"…the decision was made to “reward” the Arabs for not rioting or attacking…"

Wow! Is this an upside-down world or what? Listen, I didn't riot, either. Am I eligible for a reward? LOL

    FILTY KAFIR:

    Yep, absurd isn't it?

  • Jew With A View Jew With A View

    SULTAN KNISH –

    Precisely.

But of course, the person who posed that question doesn't care. He supports the double standard. No Jews allowed in Arab nations? Fine. But do anything, any time, that an Arab in Israel objects to and he'll be the first to protest.

    It is rank hypocrisy.

The Obamessiah is thought by his accolytes and, tragically for the rest of us, by himself to be above the rule of law. His administration is also currently bullying the poor and little constitutional republic of Honduras for acting within its laws and constitutional provisions and removing the leftist autocrat Zeleya (sp?) from the country's presidency. The Obamites want the provisional — fully legal — government in Honduras to "negotiate" with the deposed tyrant. As King Oba is on record to opine that the U.S. constitution is not adequate to accomplish his dream of marxifying the nation, I doubt he will soon show any significant respect for the laws and governing documents of others.

I swear, I did personally what I could — within the rule of law — to obstruct and prevent his ascendancy, but sadly, I failed. As an American citizen with several decades of patriotic experience and practice, I apologize for the boorish and ignorant, criminally inclined, ways of our current chief executor.
