Hello Tabatha.l completely understand your anger.Messianic Christians should stop going around and pretend to be Jewish coz they are simply not!!!As you know there are many Protestant denominations which teach…their own ‘religion’ and they make the rules as they go.The worst thing is that there are many people who believe these lies and they are happy to become the members.l had a very bad experience with protestant ‘christians’ as well.lt’s a long story but what l am trying to say is….Do let people know more about Judaism so they do not buy into lies.

Before I left for seminary my pastor warned me that seminary made as many atheists as ministers. At seminary I learned all sorts oo things that lay Christians never learn, i.e. that the notion of Yeshua fulfilling Messianic expectations is nonsense. Lay Christians really don’t realize their faith is a classic Mediterranean pagan cult, complete with Yahweh as Zeus mating with human girls and fathering a demigod, and that their Polycephalic Trinity is just a rehash of Antiochus IV’s attempt to meld the gods of the competing religions in the area for political purposes. As an atheist I find arguments over who is and isn’t authentically a “this” or a “that” religion like arguing over whether Thor or Green Lantern wins in a fight, but I am all about truth, and truth is Christianity was linked to Judaism as a marketing tool to give it the instant respect and accomodation accorded to ancient faiths like Judaism in the Romam Empire.

Hi MARGARET,

No, not in the case of Atheism. A Jewish Atheist is simply a ‘lapsed’ Jew, a non practising Jew.

Just as you can be an American or British citizen without being remotely patriotic, so too, you can be a Jewish Atheist – you haven’t actually embraced ANOTHER faith, so you remain a ‘citizen’ of Judaism.

In the case of Buddhism… Some people do argue that it’s a ‘lifestyle’ rather than a religion. I’m not sure I agree with that. If ANY Jew has a statue of Buddha for example – that is idolatry.

So in my humble opinion, one is either Jewish OR Buddhist. Not both.

It’s everyone’s right to choose their own faith, of course. But Jews who change faiths shouldn’t be calling themselves ‘jews’ any longer, that’s all
